(P3) Institute of Mathematical Statistics and Applied Mathematics (http://www.csm.ro/home/index_ro.htm). The Institute was founded in 2001 by the union of the Institute of Applied Mathematics and the Center of Mathematical Statistics. The institute carries the research programmes within two departments: Department of Applied Mathematics and Centre for Mathematical Statistics. The main research areas are: probabilty and stochastic processes, statistical inference, operational researches, dynamical systems and control theory, fluid mechanics, partial differential equations and applications in environmental and life sciences. The instiute is involved in editing of two journals of the Romanian Academy: Revue Roumaine de Matematiques Pures et Appliquees and Mathematical Reports. The institute coordonates Ph.D. thesis in the field of mathematics.

Dr. Stelian Ion (speaker WP3) graduated the Faculty of Mathematics of University of Bucharest in 1983 and from 1999 he is PhD in Mathematics-Mechanics. Main research area are: mathematical modelling in life science, numerical analysis, numerical ecology, partial differential equations and fluid mechanics. Also he was involved in several project research as partner coordinator or member in the team research of the institute. From 2001 he is the head of the Department of Applied Mathematics of the institute.
